Last year, Farrah Khan campaigned for Mayor of Irvine, promising to bring transparency, ethics, and democratic values to City Hall. In just the first few months in office, she’s broken those promises.
Upon taking office, Khan implemented an anti-democratic rule to restrict members of the Council from adding any item to the agenda without first obtaining a second Councilmember’s signature. (The rule does not apply to Khan, as Mayor.)

Last May, it appeared the wait for the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery was finally over when three members of the current City Council (now-Mayor Farrah Khan and Councilmembers Mike Carroll and Anthony Kuo) voted to adopt the citizens’ initiative, signed by 19,790 Irvine residents, to rezone the ARDA site exclusively for the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery.
But nearly a year later, Khan, Carroll, Kuo and (and newly-elected Councilmember Tammy Kim) have gone back on their word to Irvine voters, deliberately delaying the project … again.
Every election cycle, candidates for City Council talk about how much they support our local veterans. Yet seven long years after the City agreed to donate the ARDA site for a beautiful State-built and State-operated Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery, construction still has not begun.

Since she ran for the Irvine City Council in 2018, now-Mayor Farrah Khan has insisted that she supports the proposed Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery. This past year, she has publicly and repeatedly endorsed the placement of the Veterans Cemetery on the 125-acre “ARDA” site at the Great Park.
However, since being elected Mayor, Khan has displayed no interest in moving forward with the project.
