U.S. News & World Report has named UCI one of the top 10 public universities in America for the sixth consecutive year, and UCI Medical Center one of America’s best hospitals for the 20th consecutive year.

Construction of the 9-acre Samueli College of Health Sciences complex at the University of California, Irvine is scheduled to begin this month.

Philanthropist, environmentalist, social activist, and Southern California art historian, Joan Irvine Smith died peacefully at her home, at age 86.

A member of the family who founded the Irvine Ranch, Ms. Smith was instrumental in establishing UCI and co-founded CHOC Children’s Hospital.

UCI Medical Center is the only level 1 Trauma Center in Orange County which means they are equipped to handle the most serious traumas. They transfuse approximately 1000 units of blood each month to their patients. With the current national shortage of Type O blood and platelets, the blood donor center is asking for the community’s help.

In its 2019-2020 ranking, Money Magazine has named UCI the best college in the nation. 

UCI received a record $441 million in this year’s research funding for projects ranging from cutting-edge medical research techniques to new ways to better manage the state’s forests and wildlands in the face of climate change.
