Congratulations to UCI researchers who will lead a national effort to document the intricate cell types and states in breast tissue in an effort to better understand how breast cancer arises.
The “Human Breast Cell Atlas” project — supported by a $4 million grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative — will generate a high-resolution, multidimensional image, allowing researchers to identify previously unrealized cell types and to better understand how these cells communicate with each other in normal tissue homeostasis and disease.
This project will be part of the larger “Human Cell Atlas,” bringing experimental scientists, computational biologists, software engineers and physicians together in an international effort to map all cells in the human body.
