Construction of the planned 9-acre Samueli College of Health Sciences complex at the University of California, Irvine is scheduled to begin this month.
Once completed, the site will be the new home for the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, which consists of the School of Medicine, the Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing, the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, the proposed School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the proposed School of Population Health.
The complex will also include a 150-seat auditorium, a Zen garden, a central courtyard connecting the health center with the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, and a 600-foot-long wellness walk that will lead to the School of Medicine’s Biomedical Research Center.
UCI chancellor Howard Gillman called the project a national model for integrative health teaching, research and delivery.
The $185 million complex will be located on the corner of Bison and California avenues adjacent to the UCI Research Park.
