Checking in with Ed Pope, Chair of the “Build the Great Park Veterans Cemetery” Committee

Irvine Community News & Views (ICNV) recently sat down with Chair of the Build the Great Park Veterans Cemetery committee, Ed Pope.

Voter Resources: Vote Center & Official Drop Box Locations in Irvine

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, voting is a bit different this year.

Vote-by-mail ballots have been mailed to all registered voters in Orange County. You can drop your completed vote-by-mail ballot in the U.S. mail or at one of the Official Ballot Drop Box locations in Irvine. Ballots must be received or postmarked (if you use the U.S. Postal Service) by November 3rd to be counted.

If you prefer voting in-person, 14 Vote Centers are now open in Irvine.

Shea, Carroll & Kuo Vote to Derail the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery…Again!

While tens of thousands of Irvine residents were under evacuation orders due to the Silverado Canyon Wildfire, appointed Mayor Christina Shea and appointed Councilman Mike Carroll engineered a Council vote to begin leasing out the ARDA site at the Great Park — even though the site is zoned exclusively for our long-promised Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery.

Shea and Carroll have been scheming for years to delay and derail the voter-approved Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery on the ARDA site.

The Silverado Canyon Fire: Mandatory Evacuations Lifted in Irvine

On Monday morning (October 26th), a vegetation fire broke out in Silverado Canyon, which forced more than 90,000 Irvine residents to evacuate their homes.

Mandatory evacuation orders have now been lifted for several communities.

Anyone who is medically compromised or in need of assistance evacuating, please call the Emergency Operations Center at (949) 529-4774.

Agran & Johnson-Norris to Introduce Two Council Priority Action Plans to Tackle COVID & the Veterans Cemetery

Former Irvine Mayor and current City Council candidate, Larry Agran has announced that if he is elected to the Council, joined by Lauren Johnson-Norris, he will put two priority Resolutions on the agenda for Council action at the first business meeting of the newly seated Council.

The two Council Resolutions include the establishment of a comprehensive COVID-19 plan and plans to immediately begin construction of our long-promised Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery at the Great Park.

Agran vs. Shea & Carroll: Development is on the Ballot

After a 6-year hiatus, Larry Agran, former Irvine Mayor and Councilmember, is running for City Council because, in his words, “I want to restore good planning, safeguard our City-owned parklands, get COVID-19 under control here in Irvine, and implement the mandate of the voters to immediately begin construction of the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery at the ARDA site in our 1,300-acre Great Park.”

The Shea-Carroll plan is to bring office, commercial, and industrial development to the Great Park…and thousands of cars to the site every day.

Shea & Carroll, Both Unelected, Must Face Irvine Voters as “Appointed” Office-Holders

Unelected Mayor Christina Shea and unelected Councilman Michael Carroll — both on the Nov. 3rd City election ballot — are required by State law to include the word Appointed in their ballot designations.  The law requires that voters are informed that the positions Shea and Carroll now hold in Irvine City government came by way of controversial political appointment and not through an election by the people.

Shea is complying with State law, running as “Appointed Irvine Mayor.”  But Carroll, who is a lawyer, refused to put Appointed in his ballot designation.

Irvine Boy Scout Coordinates Successful Food Drive

Irvine resident, David Gima is a 9th-grader who will be attending Northwood High School this fall. He’s also  working towards becoming an Eagle Scout.  For his Eagle project, David coordinated a successful food drive in the Park Paseo and Canyon Creek communities.

David’s goal was to collect 1,000 pounds of food.  He and his team ended up collecting 3,763 pounds!
