Professional Baseball Team Coming to Irvine
The Irvine City Council has approved a five-year agreement with Innovation Baseball Partners (IBP) to bring a professional baseball team to the Great Park Championship Baseball Stadium beginning next summer.
The new, yet-to-be-named team will join IBP’s three other teams that compete in the Pioneer Baseball League, an official partner league of Major League Baseball.
City officials estimate the partnership will generate just over $365,000 in annual revenue for the Great Park.
Community organizations and local teams, including the OC Riptide summer collegiate baseball team, will continue to have access to the stadium.

Irvine Mayor Larry Agran joined more than 150 UCI Health team members and community leaders to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the new UCI Health – Irvine Rehabilitation Hospital.
The event marked another milestone in expanding access to specialized rehabilitation care for the Irvine community and patients throughout the region.
The new 52-bed, 70,000-square-foot freestanding rehabilitation hospital will provide specialized care for patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, severe burns, polytrauma, amputations and other complex conditions.

Woollett Aquatics Center Expansion
Improvements are currently underway at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
Construction has begun on a major expansion that will bring new amenities for residents of all ages — including an additional pool, splash pad, Ninja Cross obstacle course, modern locker rooms, expanded bleacher seating, sports lighting, accessibility enhancements, and a new parking lot along Walnut Avenue.
The Woollett Aquatics Center and nearby facilities will remain open throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in spring 2028.

From Launch to Success: Irvine Public Library’s First Year
Public libraries are more than just places to borrow books — they are vibrant community spaces that inspire learning, support education, encourage lifelong discovery, and bring neighbors together.
Last year marked an exciting milestone as the City of Irvine officially launched its new City-run public library system. More than 1,200 residents joined the August 2025 celebration, signaling strong community support for this new chapter.
Today, Irvine has greater local control over its library system, allowing the City to modernize existing facilities, plan for future branches, expand collections, enhance programming, and tailor services to meet the unique needs of Irvine residents.

City officials have announced the launch of the Irvine Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, a new 25,000-square-foot hub designed to accelerate innovation and generate high-paying jobs by bringing together entrepreneurs, startups, investors, business resource organizations, and strategic partners.
The Center offers office and laboratory workspace, along with access to resources and collaboration opportunities that help innovators launch, grow, and scale their businesses.
By creating a centralized hub for talent, capital, and business resources, the Center advances the City’s Economic Development Blueprint — a long-term strategy focused on fostering entrepreneurship, driving innovation, and creating high-wage jobs in Irvine.
Habitat Restoration Project in Bommer Canyon
The City of Irvine has announced a major habitat restoration and wildfire prevention initiative in Bommer Canyon Preserve, funded by a $1 million grant from the California Natural Resources Agency secured with the support of Irvine’s State Assemblymember, Cottie Petrie-Norris.
In partnership with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, the City is tackling one of the region’s growing wildfire challenges: the spread of invasive, non-native grasses.
By removing invasive vegetation and restoring native habitat, the project is helping reduce wildfire risk, slow the potential spread of fires, enhance ecological health, and strengthen protections for surrounding communities.
