As we began October — which was six months into the pandemic — Orange County had reported 53,751 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,268 deaths. There were 172 Orange County residents hospitalized with COVID-19.
During October & November, there were an additional 24,802 confirmed COVID-19 cases across the County … and we had lost another 309 of our Orange County neighbors.
As of December 11th, there are 1,122 COVID-19 patients in Orange County hospitals.
Although the majority of the cases (and deaths) have been reported in the communities of Santa Ana, Fullerton, Garden Grove and Anaheim, Irvine has the sixth highest number of reported cases with 3,530.
Researchers at UCI have found that COVID-19 is nearly 7 times more prevalent than testing has revealed.
That’s why Irvine Community News & Views encourages our readers to continue to follow safety protocols throughout the holiday season. Wash your hands thoroughly and often, practice physical distancing, and always wear a face mask when you are out in public.
