UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital Opens

Irvine Mayor Larry Agran joined more than 150 UCI Health team members and community leaders to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the new UCI Health – Irvine Rehabilitation Hospital. The event marked another milestone in expanding access to specialized rehabilitation care for the Irvine community and patients throughout the region.

The new 52-bed, 70,000-square-foot freestanding rehabilitation hospital will provide specialized care for patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, severe burns, polytrauma, amputations and other complex conditions. By bringing advanced rehabilitation services closer to home, the hospital will not only help patients regain independence but also drive the future of rehabilitative medicine through research and innovation.

Located less than two miles from the new UCI Health Hospital, which opened in Irvine late last year, the four-story rehabilitation hospital has already begun welcoming its first patients.

Designed to support every stage of recovery, the facility features specialized brain and spinal cord injury programs, an independent living suite where patients can safely practice everyday activities before returning home, and state-of-the-art therapeutic and robot-assisted rehabilitation technologies tailored to each patient’s needs.

As part of Orange County’s only academic health system, the hospital will allow physicians and researchers to develop and evaluate new rehabilitation therapies and technologies. Eligible patients will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research that has the potential to advance the field of rehabilitative medicine and improve care for future generations.
