Last month, I was one of the 113 million Americans tuned in to watch what may have been the greatest Super Bowl ever. Tom Brady led the New England Patriots back from a 25-point deficit to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime, 34-28, winning the 51st Super Bowl. Wow! What a thrill for football fans!
In a previous SportsWatch article, I wrote about the new NFL team in Southern California — the Los Angeles Rams — and their 2016 training camp at UCI. In recent weeks, we learned that another NFL team — the San Diego Chargers — is relocating to the Los Angeles area for the start of the 2017 season. This is going to be a feast for Southern California pro-football fans.
Here in Irvine, for aspiring young football players, there is growing interest in flag football. In fact, there are a couple of youth flag-football leagues. I’d recommend the Matt Leinart Flag Football Irvine League, organized by NFL quarterback and former USC star, Matt Leinart. For more information, go to: www.mlflagirvine.com.
