Join Irvine’s Local Run Club ‘RunOC’

Here is a terrific way to connect with your Irvine neighbors while getting in a healthy walk or run.

In searching for local meetups around Irvine, I came across a group called Run OC.

It’s a club that meets every Wednesday evening at 6pm to run, jog, or walk 2-4 miles along the beautiful Jeffrey Open Space Trail.

The group meets at the Starbucks in the Cypress Village Shopping Center off Jeffrey and Trabuco.

They walk across the street for a quick group photo, and then head out towards Portola Parkway and back.

Participants walk or run at their own pace. Once everyone gets back to the starting point, they do 20 push-ups together as a group, share announcements, and then head home or out to dinner at one of the local Irvine restaurants they choose beforehand.

I spoke with the leader of the club, Dave, who works as a chiropractor in Tustin. He said the group was founded about six years ago. He took over a year or so ago, after the club’s founder moved out of Orange County.

The group generally attracts 30-5o people each week, with many of the members forming friendships.

The Run OC club is a great way to get out and exercise during the week, meet new people, and connect with folks who can join you in any upcoming 5k’s, marathons, or races that you might like to participate in.

New members are always welcome to join this free fitness group.

You can learn more about the club on Meetup here and on Instagram here.
