Irvine-based youth club OC Premier Futsal Academy recently won the “Boys Under 10” Futsal National Championship.
Futsal is fast-paced style of soccer played on a smaller hardwood surface, usually 5 players on each team as opposed to the bigger outdoors 11-player format on grass or synthetic turf. Futsal also uses a smaller, low bounce soccer ball in its basketball-sized field as a way of helping players get more touches on the soccer ball.
Similar to regular soccer, there are youth national championships held each year for futsal. OC Premier’s Under 10 boys team took home the cup after winning the national championship in Kansas City, Missouri.
Congratulations to coach Jessie Lopez and this group of young athletes on their latest accomplishment!
OC Premier Futsal Academy draws players from all around Orange County and uses the Momentous Sports Center indoor facility in Irvine (located near the Tustin Marketplace) for its practices. If you haven’t been to the Momentous Sports Center, it is the largest indoor sports facility in Orange County.
