Say “g’day” to Aussie Fitness Pros, a fitness company based in Irvine that specializes in a new type of treadmill that’s a perfect addition to any home gym. The non-motorized, self-propelled treadmill is called the Aussie Pro Runner.
While an expensive item like this treadmill would have seemed too expensive before the COVID-19 pandemic struck last year, it now feels like a good investment for those of us who have transitioned to working out at home.
Like most good business ideas, Aussie Fitness Pros co-founder Adena Love, an Australian expat and avid runner with a background in health and wellness, came up with the idea for the treadmill after having her first child.
Love said: “Getting back into shape after having a child can be difficult. That’s why I wanted to be 100% in control of the speed. That makes it easy to slow down and walk if you need to take a break or pick up the pace if you feel like pushing yourself. This is so important after a major operation like a C-section. After giving birth, I was able to slowly get back to running without having to worry about injuring myself. The added bonus is that I can use this in the comfort of my home. When my baby sleeps for an hour, I can squeeze in a good workout without leaving my house.”
Love started Aussie Fitness Pros with another avid runner, Mike Flynn, an Irvine native with an industrial design background, who felt the Aussie Pro Runner was perfect for people working out from home as well as commercial gyms looking to open back up with an exciting new item.
Flynn explained that since it’s on wheels and doesn’t need to be plugged in, you can easily move the treadmill back and forth between rooms in your home, or even roll it out into your backyard to feel like you are running outside. In addition to normal interval and high intensity runs, the treadmill contains a magnetic resistance handle that allows you to mimic running uphill.
Flynn said, “We’re really excited about this latest generation. It’s always been commercial grade and now the new console has connectivity to a chest heart rate band. It’ll take your workout to the next level.”
I had the opportunity to test out the treadmill myself and can attest to how intense of a workout it can be.
