Three decades ago, Irvine’s General Plan included proposed construction of a City gymnasium for the entire Irvine community to enjoy. Now, it looks like the project will finally become a reality.
During the September 12th City Council meeting, the Council voted 5-0 to approve Coucilmember Larry Agran’s motion to move forward with a design contract for the gymnasium, to be built at Bill Barber/Civic Center Park.
The next step is to solicit feedback from Irvine residents regarding the size and amenities for the gymnasium. This fall and winter, the City will host a series of community outreach events. The community’s feedback will play a critical role in determining the final design before construction begins.
The gymnasium is scheduled to become operational by summer 2026.
