NOTE: As a community college trustee, I have the good fortune of meeting some amazing people. The past few weeks, I have been spotlighting Irvine residents who are excelling in their studies at IVC.

IVC President John C. Hernandez with IVC student Brittany Kester
Irvine resident and Irvine Valley College (IVC) student Brittany Kester is a first-generation student, a member of the IVC Honors Program, President of the school’s Psi Beta chapter, and a student government (ASIVC) senator.
Last month, Brittany was awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship.
From a field of more than 1,200 applicants from across the nation, she is one of only 100 high-achieving community college students to receive this prestigious national scholarship.
As part of the award, Brittany will receive as much as $55,000 annually for up to three years to complete her bachelor’s degree at the college or university of her choice.
The scholarship also comes with comprehensive advising and other program support.
I want to congratulate Brittany on her award and wish her much success in her continued academic studies!
