Community College Corner: Meet IVC Student Anna Nahm

NOTE: As a community college trustee, I have the good fortune of meeting some amazing people. Over the next few weeks, I will be spotlighting Irvine residents who are excelling in their studies at Irvine Valley College.

Irvine resident & IVC student Anna Nahm

Irvine resident and Irvine Valley College (IVC) student Anna Nahm is one of 15 Phi Theta Kappa members selected as a 2022 Guistwhite Scholar. The award comes with a $5,000 scholarship for her continuing studies. (2,700 applications were received nationwide.)

In addition, Anna was named to the First Academic Team for Phi Theta Kappa All-California. She was also selected as a 2022 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar.

Anna is now on her way to UC Berkeley where she plans to major in Economics and minor in Politics, Philosophy, and the Law. Her long-term goal is to attend Columbia Law School where she hopes to become an entertainment lawyer working on copyright issues.

During her time at IVC, Anna was involved in student government, serving as Chief Justice of the Judicial Court. She also participated in Phi Theta Kappa as the Vice President of Leadership. In addition, Anna served as president of several campus clubs — including the Business Leaders Society and the Pre-Law Society, which she founded. Anna is also part of the Honors Program.

Anna credits IVC for her success, saying: “As a nontraditional student who returned to IVC with little hope for my educational path, I found a home at IVC and a place to grow. I was an average-at-best student growing up; IVC was the first environment where my peers and professors believed in me and listened to me. I received many honors/awards/scholarships, and I really became a part of my school community. I will always be grateful for IVC for giving me a second chance to work towards a bachelor’s degree and gain a lifetime of valuable connections and relationships.”

I wish Anna every success as she moves on to UC Berkeley. I am so happy to know that IVC played such an integral role in shaping her educational future and have no doubt that she will continue to thrive in her next  chapter.
