I finally made it out to a concert at the FivePoint Ampitheatre, four years after the live music venue was built to replace the old Irvine Meadows Ampitheatre.
Located behind the Great Park, the new amphitheatre is a bit smaller than Irvine Meadows, with only about 12,000 seats. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how terrific the venue is! The seating feels much more intimate, with everyone requiring a seat. (There is a small standing-only area at the front of the stage.) The old Irvine Meadows had a huge grassy open seating area in the back that provided a less intimate feel. One concertgoer at the new venue told me: “You can’t get a bad view of the stage in the entire place.”
In addition to the great seating, they’ve done a great job organizing food and drink options at the amphitheatre. Just outside the seating area, there is a big circle of food trucks and drink vendors, as well as lots of seating and room for concertgoers to gather away from the music.
Getting to the venue was pretty easy, with a large drop-off and pick-up area for people using ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. There’s also a big parking area on the other side of the amphitheatre. And, it’s located right next to the Irvine train station for those who choose public transportation.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the pricing! Naturally, front row seats are going to be expensive, but I was amazed by how affordable the average seats were, and those towards the back.
Overall, the sound quality, scenery behind the stage, food & drink options, transportation accessibility, and pricing all make the FivePoint Ampitheatre a must-visit for Irvine locals.
