Election Results in Irvine

by Roger Bloom

On December 3rd, the Orange County Registrar of Voters certified the election results in the November 5th election.

Orange County’s voter turnout in the election was 76.1%. After weeks of counting, the Registrar tallied a total of 1,417,397 ballots across the county.

In the race for Irvine’s Congressional seat (which was vacated by Katie Porter when she ran for U.S. Senate earlier this year), Democrat Dave Min has won.

In Irvine’s State Senate race, former Irvine Mayor Steven Choi has won.

Irvine’s State Assemblymember, Cottie Petrie-Norris won re-election.

With seven candidates on the ballot for Mayor of Irvine, Vice Mayor Larry Agran will become Irvine’s next Mayor. Agran’s win is remarkable considering his all-volunteer campaign was outspent 10-1 by Councilmember Tammy Kim, who depended on hundreds of thousands of dollars from special interest political action committees and out-of-town donors to fund her campaign.

In the City Council races, Melinda Liu has won in District 1; William Go won in District 2; James Mai won in District 3; and incumbent Councilmember Mike Carroll has won in District 4.

The new Mayor and Council will be sworn-in on Tuesday, December 10th at City Hall (1 Civic Center Plaza).

Longtime Irvine educator Carolyn Inmon has won re-election to the South Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees.
