Community College Corner: Meet IVC Student Brooke Alsayed

by

NOTE: As a community college trustee, I have the good fortune of meeting some amazing people. The past few weeks, I have been spotlighting Irvine residents who are excelling in their studies at IVC.

Irvine resident Brooke Alsayed graduated from Portola High School before enrolling at Irvine Valley College (IVC).

This fall, Brooke is headed to UCLA where she will study neuroscience. Her long-term goal is to attend medical school.

Brooke currently volunteers as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), which has piqued her interest in emergency medicine. She hopes to become a physician specializing in urgent care.

When asked about her time at IVC, Brooke said: “The professors and staff at IVC truly cared about my success as an individual, which is what distinguishes this community college. The resources are immense, and the honors program directed by Dr. Emily Liu has made the most significant difference in my academic career.”

Brooke added: “There are vast opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities at IVC. I have had the honor of being a STEM tutor at the Student Success Center, Vice President of the Mental Wellness Club, and an IT project specialist working for the South Orange Community District’s design team. With Dr. Liu as my mentor, I was also able to present my semester-long research at UCI’s 21st Annual Honors Conference and become a peer mentor as a part of the honors program Student Council.”

As she heads off to UCLA, I wish Brooke much success!
