Northwood High School Principal Receives Prestigious Award for Administrator Excellence

A group of Northwood High School staff members successfully nominated Dr. Leslie Roach who has been awarded the distinguished Marcus Foster Award for Administrator Excellence, which recognizes outstanding leadership and significant contributions to education by a school administrator.

The committee was so impressed by the sentiments expressed in the nomination letter of Dr. Roach that they’ve advanced her as a finalist for the State Administrator of the Year Award.

Why is the State Being Asked to Study 2 Sites for the Veterans Memorial Park … Even Though Only 1 Site is Legally Available?

Last May, three members of the current City Council (now-Mayor Farrah Khan and Councilmembers Mike Carroll and Anthony Kuo) voted to adopt the citizens’ initiative, signed by 19,790 Irvine residents, which officially rezoned the ARDA site exclusively for the Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery.

Khan, Carroll, and Kuo are now presenting a false narrative.  They are suggesting that the City Council can ignore last year’s Council vote, have the State conduct a $700,000 study, and then select a completely different site based on the results of that study.  The fact of the matter is, by law, they cannot do that.

Irvine High School Students Write COVID-19 Book

Two Irvine high school students (and siblings), Neil and Monica Pal, have written a children’s book focused on helping kids deal with fears surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
 

Neil and Monica’s family owns a Montessori preschool, which allowed them to see firsthand how young children were confused and frightened by the uncertainty in their lives when the pandemic struck.

Wanting to help, Neil and Monica teamed up to write The COVID-19 ABC Alphabet Book.

Sign Up Now: Saturday Science Series for High School Students in April

High school students across the country are invited to participate in a series of free online workshops in April. 
 

The Saturday Science Series will explore the science behind the current South Pole Telescope (SPT), and the new CMB-S4 Experiment, which is a cosmological research project that uses 21 telescopes to survey the microwave sky over a seven-year period with the goal of unlocking secrets in cosmology, fundamental physics, astrophysics and astronomy.

How Irvine Residents Can Participate in City Council Meetings

 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the public is not allowed to physically attend City Council meetings.  However, residents can still express their opinions during the Public Comments portions of each Council meeting via Zoom (audio only) or by calling in.

For many people, the most comfortable way to take part in a Council meeting is to watch it on TV and then use a phone to call in to the meeting to speak.
