The City of Irvine has announced a major habitat restoration and wildfire prevention initiative in Bommer Canyon Preserve, funded by a $1 million grant from the California Natural Resources Agency secured with the support of Irvine’s State Assemblymember, Cottie Petrie-Norris.

By removing invasive vegetation and restoring native habitat, the project is helping reduce wildfire risk, slow the potential spread of fires, enhance ecological health, and strengthen protections for surrounding communities.

Residents and visitors now have a new way to get around Irvine with the launch of the City’s first fixed-station Bike Share Pilot Program.

The pilot begins with two stations located at the Irvine Civic Center (1 Civic Center Plaza) and University Town Center (4255 Campus Drive).

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup concludes this weekend, the City of Irvine is celebrating an unforgettable chapter in the community’s history and thanking the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team for allowing Irvine to play a role in the team’s World Cup journey.

Thousands of residents and visitors gathered throughout the month to glimpse training sessions, attend community events, and cheer on the players as they represented the United States on soccer’s biggest stage. Along the way, the team’s presence brought neighbors together, inspired young athletes, and created lasting memories for families and fans throughout Irvine.
