Northwood High School’s cast & crew for Trap
From October 27 to 31, Northwood High School students will bring Stephen Gregg’s Trap to the stage, delivering an unsettling tale of dread.
The psychological thriller follows an inexplicable incident in a small California town, where every audience member at a high school play falls unconscious except for one, Angela Luer (played by sophomore Angela Tran). Told through interviews, recordings, and evidence, the documentary-style mystery follows witnesses, first responders, and investigators as they attempt to uncover the truth.
Sophomore Crystal Zhou brings urgency to the role of Ephrain, a firefighter, while sophomore Akshara Gurram’s nuanced performance captures Gwendolyn Heche’s determination as a struggling detective navigating a new job. Senior Matthew Chan draws on his strengths in monologues and character work to explore Rickenboch Baynor, a researcher studying fear.
Beyond the script, the cast has developed original backstories and relationships to deepen their characters’ motivations. These interpretations include Norma Pike’s (played by junior Jasmine Moghnie) relationship with her fiancé and the dynamics between the scientists and investigators working to solve the mystery.
The production also uses sound and lighting to heighten suspense and create an eerie atmosphere. Through its unconventional storytelling and psychological tension, Trap challenges audiences to question what they believe as the mystery unfolds.
“It is like no other play I have ever directed, and I am excited to take on the challenge,” Director Michele Sheehy said. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for seniors and students. Purchase tickets online here.
