Woollett Aquatics Center Expansion

by ICNV Staff

Improvements are currently underway at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

Construction has begun on a major expansion that will bring new amenities for residents of all ages — including an additional pool, splash pad, Ninja Cross obstacle course, modern locker rooms, expanded bleacher seating, sports lighting, accessibility enhancements, and a new parking lot along Walnut Avenue.

The project is being completed by the City of Irvine Public Works & Sustainability Department and its contractor, S.J. Amoroso Construction Company.

The Woollett Aquatics Center and nearby facilities will remain open throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in spring 2028. Sidewalks along Walnut Avenue may be temporarily rerouted as needed to maintain safe pedestrian access to the high school, park, and aquatics center.

City officials say that adding a fourth pool will help meet the growing demand for swim lessons, which currently leaves hundreds of children on waitlists each year. Once renovations are complete, these upgrades will expand recreational opportunities for the community while enhancing Irvine’s capacity to host regional, national, and international aquatic competitions and sporting events.
