With all ballots now counted, Irvine Mayor Donald Wagner has won the March 12th special election for Orange County Board of Supervisors (Third District seat), with 42% of the vote.
Former U.S. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez placed second with 37.1%.
Former Anaheim City Councilwoman Kris Murray came in third with 7.4%.
Wagner will finish out the remainder of Todd Spitzer’s term (Spitzer won last November’s election to become Orange County District Attorney) and will have to run again in March 2020, when Spitzer would have been up for re-election.
Only 21.2% of registered voters cast a ballot in the special election, making it one of the lowest turnouts in recent history.
