Smith’s Picks: The Blessed Braid in Irvine is OC’s Only Kosher Certified Bakery

by

When Cheryl Honig, owner of The Blessed Braid, began making traditional Jewish Challah bread in her home kitchen years ago, she had no idea that she would eventually have a thriving business.

Fast-forward to December 2021 and Cheryl’s dream became a reality when she opened Orange County’s only kosher certified retail bakery.

Located just off the 405 freeway, near Laguna Canyon and Alton Parkway, the Blessed Braid is a small retail bakery that serves a variety of fresh-baked desserts, pastries, and their specialty Challah bread. (Challah is a braided bread that is usually served on traditional Jewish occasions like Shabbat, Passover, weddings, and Bar Mitzvahs.)

In addition to Challah, the bakery’s most popular items include honey cake, made with raisins and cinnamon; fresh waffles; and a chocolate soufflé cookie that is made without flour and will melt in your mouth!

Honey Cake, Pecan Drops, Kichel, and more!

The Blessed Braid is open Monday thru Friday from 9am-3pm.

If you are looking for just a few items, you should stop by in-person, so you can sample some of their daily treats that rotate different recipes.(For large orders, be sure to call ahead.)

You can also order through UberEats … or online at the Blessed Braid website.
