Last August, seven-year-old Irvine resident Ivy ZhiYi Mao began violin lessons “virtually” with instructor Tingting Wang, who is based in San Diego. Ms. Wang offers online lessons to a variety of international music students.
After just eight months of virtual lessons, Ivy won second place in her age category at the Spring 2022 King’s Peak International Music Competition (KPIMC), beating out 19 other applicants. (Three of Ms. Wang’s students won awards in this year’s KPIMC event.)
When she isn’t playing the violin, Ivy loves math and the arts.
Irvine Community News & Views congratulates Ivy on her second-place finish. Our staff looks forward to following her blossoming musical journey.
