The annual membership drive for the Irvine chapter of the National Charity League is currently underway.
Mothers with daughters in grades 6-9 that reside here in Irvine may be interested in joining the local chapter. If you are unfamiliar with the National Charity League (NCL), it is a philanthropic organization that’s been around for more than 100 years, bringing mothers and daughters together through a variety of community service projects. The organization’s mission is to empower women to become confident, well-rounded members of society by organizing and participating in events that benefit their local communities.
Last year, the Irvine chapter provided more than 4,450 hours in service to local nonprofits — including Meals on Wheels, ShadeTree Partnership, Working Wardrobes, Priceless Pets, the Alzheimer’s Association, and more.
One of our City’s most successful programs was established by the local chapter of NCL back in 1980 — Irvine’s Meals on Wheels, which delivers nutritional meals to Irvine seniors who are homebound.
According to the organization, one of the best perks about joining NCL is the strengthening of the bond between mothers and daughters as they navigate the teenage years. Time spent chatting during a Meals on Wheels delivery or while stuffing backpacks for kids in need can keep mothers and daughters connected during those critical years.
Here’s what one NCL member had to say about the organization’s positive impact on her relationship with her mother:
“NCL has brought my mother and I closer in ways that I would never have imagined, and for that, I will be forever grateful. When I first joined NCL, I was just a little girl in seventh grade. I had no idea how positively NCL would impact our relationship, but as the years have passed, our experiences together have shaped me as a person.”
