Celebrate the Persian New Year!

Wednesday, March 18

Nowruz means “New Day” and is a joyful, colorful celebration dating back at least 3,000 years. Families can be seen dressing up, exchange gifts, and visiting family. Join us as we explore and celebrate the Persian New Year through activities, art, and storytime!

Purpose Behind the Play: Visual art and expression, self-regulation, social-emotional development, and number concepts through sorting, recognition, counting, and patterning.

  • Smart Art (Art Studio-Times Vary): Hyacinth Flowers > Flowers and spring fill the air during Norooz! Today we will be creating our very own Hyacinth flowers using unique art mediums to celebrate Norooz.
  • Holiday History (11:30 am): Norooz A Celebration of Spring! The Persian New Year > In honor of this, the biggest Persian celebration of the year, we are gathering together to learn about the customs and traditions of this holiday through this delightfully, educational children’s book. After the story, we will observe and talk about the traditional “Haft Seen” set up.
  • Math Matters (3:00 pm): One Fish, Two Fish > As part of the Persian new year tradition, families will display goldfish in their homes as a symbol of life. In addition, you can join us during our goldfish counting and sorting activities.

Grown-up Tip: Learning about diverse cultures is important in understanding the community we live in. Pretend City is a great environment to learn about diversity. By being exposed to other cultures children become aware of all the similarities and differences in our daily lives. Also, talking about different cultures opens your child’s mind to new experiences.
