City Launches Wildfire Detection Program

The City of Irvine is partnering with SensoRy AI to deploy an advanced wildfire detection network throughout the Irvine Open Space Preserve, helping firefighters to detect ignitions in their earliest stages and to respond before fires spread.

Following a successful pilot program with the Orange County Fire Authority that exceeded expectations, the City secured funding through the California Department of Conservation’s Regional Forest and Fire Capacity Program to expand the network in early 2027.

SensoRy AI’s wireless sensor network continuously monitors environmental conditions, detects wildfire ignitions in real time, and provides firefighters with instant alerts and fire behavior data.

The low-cost, infrastructure-free system is designed for remote, high-risk areas and complements existing wildfire camera networks by covering gaps they cannot.

The project is expected to become part of a broader wildfire detection network across central Orange County’s coastal open spaces. SensoRy AI founder Ryan Honary, who will attend Stanford University this fall as a Wildfire Fellow, said the company has made significant improvements to the technology since last year’s pilot. City leaders and Irvine Ranch Conservancy officials say the expanded deployment will strengthen wildfire prevention, protect nearby neighborhoods, and help safeguard the region’s open spaces.
