Canvas for Care is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded earlier this year by Northwood High School students Zainab Quraishi and Deborah Jin. The students created the organization to bring their artistic talents into underserved community health clinics — painting wall murals to brighten reception areas, at no cost to the clinics.
As Canvas for Care expanded, five new board members were added: Bella Shim and Faith Nguyen serve as Art Directors, helping to draft the mural designs; Anya Karra serves as Secretary, keeping everything organized behind the scenes; Kayla Kwak is the organization’s publicist, running their social media pages; and Sohyun Lee is the Outreach Director, connecting with clinics and seeking sponsors to fund the mural projects.
Although all of the board members attend Northwood High School, the group has welcomed volunteers from nearby high schools — including Portola High School, Woodbridge High School, Irvine High School, and other local schools.
Interested in getting involved? The students are always looking to partner with new clinics and sponsors. To learn more about Canvas for Care and how you can help support their work, visit their Instagram page here or send an email to canvasforcare25@gmail.com.
