Oscar Predictions & Where to Watch the Nominees

by Joel Smith

The 2026 Oscars will be broadcast live on ABC on Sunday, March 14th at 4pm from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Below are some of my predictions and where you can watch the nominated films.

Best Picture Nominees
Bugonia (Streaming on Peacock)

F1 (Streaming on Apple TV)

One Battle After Another (Streaming on HBO Max)

Hamnet (Available to rent online through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Youtube)

Frankenstein (Streaming on Netflix)

Marty Supreme (Available to rent online through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Youtube)

The Secret Agent (Available to rent online through Apple TV and Youtube)

Sentimental Value (Available to rent online through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Youtube)

Sinners (Streaming on HBO Max)

Train Dreams (Streaming on Netflix)

There are a lot of great movies this year, but I am going with the heavy favorite One Battle After Another — the action thriller from acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Best Actor
Timothee Chalamet, Marty Supreme

Leonardo Dicaprio, One Battle After Another

Ethan Hawke, Blue Moon (Available to rent online through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Youtube)

Michael B. Jordan, Sinners

Wagner Moura, The Secret Agent

This is a tough choice between Ethan Hawke and Timothee Chalamet, but I believe Timothee Chalamet will take home the trophy for his depiction of 1950’s table tennis player Marty Mouser.

Best Actress
Jessie Buckley, Hamnet

Rose Byrne, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You  (Streaming on HBO Max)

Renate Reinsve, Sentimental Value

Emma Stone, Bugonia

Kate Hudson, Song Sung Blue  (Streaming on Peacock)

These were all terrific performances, but I will go with Jessie Buckley in Hamnet for her performance as Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare.

Best Supporting Actor
Benicio Del Toro, One Battle After Another

Jacob Elordi, Frankenstein

Delroy Lindo, Sinners

Sean Penn, One Battle After Another

Stellan Skarsgard, Sentimental Value

It’s a very tight race, but I think young Jacob Elordi will win for his performance in Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein.

Best Supporting Actress
Elle Fanning, Sentimental Value

Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Sentimental Value

Amy Madigan, Weapons  (Streaming on HBO Max)

Wunmi Mosaku, Sinners

Teyana Taylor, One Battle After Another

Taylor and Madigan are the two favorites here. I will go with Teyana Taylor for her supporting role as revolutionary Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another.

Best Director
Chloe Zhao, Hamnet

Josh Safdie, Marty Supreme

Paul Thomas Anderson, One Battle After Another

Joachim Trier, Sentimental Value

Ryan Coogler, Sinners

This is a very stacked category, but I believe that Chloe Zhao will win for Hamnet, the story of William Shakespeare losing a young child and then writing the popular play Hamlet.

Other Predictions
The Netflix hit Kpop Demon Hunters is on track to win “Best Animated Feature” while The Secret Agent is my pick to win the hotly contested “Best International Feature” award.

In addition, Chloe Zhao for Hamnet and Ryan Coogler for Sinners are my picks to win the two “Best Screenplay” Oscars.

A lot of these movies will be shown in Irvine theatres in the weeks leading up to the Oscars. For showtimes, visit the Regal and AMC theatre websites.
