This week, the FBI released their annual report of America’s safest cities.
For the 16th consecutive year, Irvine has been ranked the Safest City in America among cities with a population of 250,000 or more. (According to the U.S. 2020 Census, Irvine now has more than 307,000 residents.)
The FBI report is based on the number of violent crimes — including murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, auto theft and arson.
Retiring Irvine Police Chief Mike Hamel is quoted as saying: “Irvine continues to be a safe community due to the strong partnership between the men and women of the Irvine Police Department, our City leaders who always make public safety a top priority, and our residents and business community.”
Irvine Community News & Views thanks Chief Hamel for his years of service to our Irvine community, and congratulates the entire Irvine Police Department for all they do to keep our families safe!
