In 2023, NASA will launch a $242 million, two-year space mission, using a telescope-based craft that will help astronomers understand how our universe evolved and the common ingredients for life in our galaxy’s planetary systems.
UCI astronomers will head up one of the three main science investigations on the Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer (SPHEREx) mission.
UCI professor of physics & astronomy, Asantha Cooray, will lead the group that will use SHEREx to to study how galaxies formed throughout the history of the universe.
