With so many new amenities coming to the Great Park, the City is working to improve access and traffic circulation into and around the park.
A portion of Marine Way runs along the southern perimeter of the Great Park, north of the Metrolink railway. However, there is currently no direct rail crossing or direct road access into the Great Park from Marine Way and Barranca, where Marine Way now ends. To address that problem, construction is now underway to create a new rail undercrossing at Marine Way to provide a direct connection between the Great Park and the Spectrum area. (The nearest crossings are currently located 2.5 miles northwest at Sand Canyon Avenue, and about 2 miles southeast at Alton Parkway.)
The Marine Way extension and new underpass will reduce travel times, ease congestion, and save drivers fuel. By prioritizing safety and creating these new connections, the City hopes to make it easier for residents to walk or bike, resulting in fewer vehicle trips and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2027. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of this remarkable infrastructure project.
