Strikers FC Irvine (formerly Irvine Strikers) recently won the Under-19 MLS Next Youth Soccer National Championship in Nashville, Tennessee. The team defeated Cedar Stars Academy from New Jersey in a penalty kick shootout to win the MLS Next Cup, which is the highest level championship of youth soccer in the United States.
Nationally, youth soccer is made up of a number of talented, competitive leagues. The highest league is the MLS Next league. This league is managed, organized and controlled by professional MLS (Major League Soccer) teams across America, as well as some non-professional youth clubs like Strikers FC Irvine.
Club Director Don Ebert, MLS Next Director Willie Diaz, and Director of Coaching/U19 Head Coach Roy Chingirian attended a recent Irvine City Council meeting with their team to receive a commendation from the Irvine City Council.
Strikers FC Irvine has called our community home for over 35 years, coaching young athletes here in Irvine and across Orange County. Each year, they send a number of Irvine athletes to play soccer collegiately across the country, having produced many professional players — including Benny Feilhaber and Steven Birnbaum (Northwood High School graduates).
