On June 11th, the City of Irvine celebrated 52 new additions to the Wall of Recognition at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park.
Established in 2006, the Wall of Recognition stands as a tribute to the people and organizations that have helped make Irvine the thriving community it is today. This year’s inductees were celebrated for their leadership, service, innovation, and civic involvement.
The 2026 honorees join a distinguished group of more than 500 individuals and organizations whose legacy is woven into Irvine’s history and ongoing success.
This year’s ceremony honored a diverse group of community leaders and organizations — including Tanaka Farms, Families Forward, four members of the Irvine City Council, three Irvine Unified School District officials, Irvine’s City Manager Sean Crumby, City Librarian Julie Zeoli, and other distinguished Irvine residents.
Irvine Community News & Views applauds the City’s posthumous recognition of longtime Irvine resident Ed McNew, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 92. Ed spent years championing the creation of a Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery on the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, now part of the Great Park. He collected signatures and made countless phone calls in an effort to bring the City’s long-standing promise to life.
“Our community is strengthened by the residents, businesses, and organizations that call Irvine home,” said Mayor Larry Agran. “Through their leadership, kindness, and service, each of the honorees recognized this year has had a lasting impact on our City. We are grateful for their outstanding contributions and proud to ensure their efforts become a permanent part of Irvine’s history.”
