Veterans Cemetery or Massive Commercial Development in the Great Park – What Do YOU Think?

by

Construction of the 125-acre Veterans Cemetery in the Great Park would have started five months ago — and would be under way right now — if Irvine Mayor Don Wagner and Councilmembers Christina Shea and Melissa Fox hadn’t succumbed to developer FivePoint and their self-serving scheme to acquire the property for their own mega-development project.

In response to this travesty, more than 19,000 Irvine residents signed the Referendum Petition opposing the Council’s irresponsible, anti-resident decision to abandon years of planning, approvals and funding to build a Veterans Cemetery in the Great Park and, instead, rezone the land for FivePoint to undertake massive commercial development.

On January 9th, the Council will have a final opportunity to do the right thing.

If the Mayor and City Council refuse to repeal their reckless decision to hand over prime Great Park property to a multi-billion-dollar developer, Irvine voters will have the chance in an upcoming election to repeal that terrible rezoning decision themselves by voting NO!

In the meantime, here are two things you can do to ensure your voice is heard regarding this critical issue:

  • Make plans now to attend the January 9th Irvine City Council meeting, time to be announced.
  • Participate in our new online poll by clicking here, and don’t hesitate to add your comments as well.
