The Chronicle of Higher Education has ranked the University of California, Irvine (UCI) among the top four-year colleges with the best increases in percentages of underrepresented minorities. UCI was placed third in the nation among public doctorate-awarding institutions.
The ranking was based on data compiled by the U.S. Department of Education over a six-year period (2010-2016). Between 2010 and 2016, UCI increased the number of underrepresented minorities within its student body from 18.6 percent to 32.3 percent, resulting in a 13.8 percent improvement.
UCI also holds the distinction as being the only member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) in the top 10. The 62-member AAU comprises the country’s leading research institutions.
