In August, I wrote about the history of the Irvine Barclay Theatre located at the corner of Campus and Peltason Drive on the campus of University California, Irvine. This month, let’s consider some of the outstanding programs that are coming to the theatre beginning this fall.
For those of you who love jazz, the Jazz Series will be kicked off by the jazz phenomenon, Joey Alexander and his trio. You may remember seeing him recently on 60 Minutes.
The Great American Songbook Series is headlined by Orange County’s own Broadway and television star, Matthew Morrison. And, the Irvine Barclay’s signature dance series features four companies with an international flair including the tap virtuoso, Savion Glover.
Quoting Jerry Mandel, the Barclay’s President, “These are exciting times at the Barclay. There are many changes underway and these new program initiatives are already creating energy among our patrons and stirring interest among people who have not attended the Irvine Barclay Theatre before.”
In addition to the many performances at the theatre, the Irvine Barclay is committed to family programing and an expansion of its ArtsReach program that takes artists who perform on the Irvine Barclay stage and puts them into classrooms and community outreach programs.
