Paul Hyun ((left) teaching a student in Irvine
With a degree in Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and certification in Chamber Music Coaching from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Paul Hyun has performed with the San Francisco Korean Philharmonic, San Jose State Symphony, Gradus ad Parnassum Music Academy, Palo Alto Philharmonic, Prometheus Symphony, and the Tri Valley Youth Orchestra as a guest soloist.
Paul is now a faculty member at FreshStart Music Studio here in Irvine. He also teaches private and group cello and violin classes to students 7 years of age and older. In addition to traditional music lessons, he offers sectionals coaching, competition prep, and audition/recording preparation.
He teaches his students how to think outside the classical realms of music while learning the fundamentals of their training. Paul’s students have graduated with degrees in Cello Performance, won competitions, participated in ABRSM exams, and performed in the CMEA All-State Orchestra.
He is also the founder and director of Improvicelli, which is a collaboration of musicians who showcase their talents to make cello music more accessible to modern audiences through improvisational performances — ranging from classical pieces to rock and pop covers.
Paul’s passion for the cello has led him to nurture talented young Irvine musicians while also working to make cello music “cool.”
