April 22nd: Celebrate Earth Day!

by

Earth Day is Monday, April 22nd.  It’s the day when millions of citizens across the world come together to help protect and preserve our planet.  People march, sign petitions, meet with their elected officials, plant trees, clean up their towns and roads. Corporations and governments use it to make pledges and announce sustainability measures.

Earth Day is also a great opportunity for families to spend time together exploring Irvine’s wilderness parks while learning how to help protect local plants and animals.

The Irvine Ranch Conservancy is offering a hike through Black Star Canyon Wilderness Park on Monday (April 22nd) from 8-10:30am.

Participants will hike through the hidden canyons and trails found on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. These seldom hiked trails offer fantastic vista views, a secluded oasis of oaks and rising rocky outcrops.

Stroll along the trails to discover the hidden gems of Orange County, while listening to tales of how the geology was formed underfoot.  You’ll also learn about the plants and animals that call these protected habitats home.

Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the hike.  Bring sunscreen and plenty of water.
