May Day – A Spring Celebration
May Day is finally here and it’s time to celebrate the wonderful season. Let’s welcome Spring with a celebration full of bright colors, flowers, and of course, maypoles streamed with colorful ribbons. Let’s dance and sing our way into a season full of warmth, new growth, and fun.
Purpose Behind the Play: Color identification, locomotor development, concepts of sorting, grouping, and arranging.
• Smart Art (Art Studio-Times Vary): Cork Stamped Flowers > Flowers, flowers everywhere! Stop by the Art Studio to create a beautiful flower inspired art in celebration of May Day…hooray!
• Let’s Move – locomotor (11:30 am): Maypole Celebration > “Dance around the Maypole, in and out, in and out..” You won’t want to miss this timeless tradition of dancing around our very own Maypole. There will be ribbons and merriment as we sing, dance, laugh and prance.
• Sensational Story Time (3:00 pm): Flower Power Sort > May Day is the welcoming of Spring and all the beautiful flowers it brings. Gather around as we read Mrs. Peanuckle’s Flower Alphabet to learn about all sort of lovely blooms. Following the story, we will be playing with flowers as we sort, arrange, and compare them.
Grown-up Tip: Begin a spring flower diary. Take a walk outside and find out what’s in bloom. Take a small backpack with a journal and colors. Admire the new colors that come with spring. Your botanist will use their creative juices to create a book of flowers and plants
