CultureCorner: Culture Under the Stars

by

You don’t have to fight the traffic and travel all the way to the Hollywood Bowl to enjoy an evening of entertainment under the stars. A good bet is to just head the other way on the freeway… a much shorter drive down to Saddleback Community College, where you will find some wonderful free theatrical and musical productions that will delight you. Bring your blanket, some beach chairs, a picnic dinner — and sit on the lawn as you watch the outstanding student performers from Saddleback show you what they can do!

The summer offerings begin with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on Friday, July 8th and Saturday, July 9th. Be sure to bring the kids along for this outstanding event.

Next on the agenda for a great evening, on Friday, July 15th, is the Saddleback Big Band. Sit back and enjoy an evening of music with Joey Sellars and the Saddleback Big Band — performing at this CD-release party featuring 99-year-old Shep Shepherd!

For you outdoor theatre fans, the City of Mission Viejo presents, also at Saddleback, Shakespeare’s Othello on Saturday, July 16th, and Cymbeline on Sunday, July 17th.

Concluding this outstanding series is Little Shop of Horrors on Friday, July 22nd and Saturday, July 23rd.

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Parking is free and located on the Upper Campus Quad. Saddleback College is located at 28000 Marguerite Parkway in Mission Viejo.

Festival seating is available beginning at 6 p.m. For more information, visit: www.saddleback.edu/arts/summer-theatre  or call (949) 582-4696.
